Spike and Suzy 'The Treasure of Beersel'
Isidoor
The story of Isidoor
Isidoor Mahu lived with his parents and his brother Jan in the area called 'de Nering', near the castle. He had very fragile health. During the Second World War, he spent months lying in a simple wooden box, on his doctors advice—to 'spare his back'. When the old castle guide retired, they looked for someone local to take over. From 1948 to 1988, Isidoor kept the castle open to visitors, six days a week, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Kind and dedicated, Isidoor cared for the castle for 40 years.
The Mahu brothers
Isidoor and his brother were both given a role in the comic book — Willy Vandersteens way of saying thank you for the stories, the insights, and the warm welcome he received during his many visits to the castle.
It is Isidoor who tells the story of the castle.
