‘Les spectacles de Beersel’
The comic story begins with Spike and Suzy attending a play at the castle. Since it features musketeers with rapiers, we can assume that Willy Vandersteen was inspired by the play 'Les Mousquetaires au Château', which was performed in the courtyard of the medieval castle in 1952.
Between 1949 and 1958, Jean-Pierre Rey staged summer spectacles at the castle under the name 'Les spectacles de Beersel', in close collaboration with the Théâtre Royal des Galeries, based in the beautiful Royal Saint-Hubert Galleries in Brussels.
Folding chairs for the audience were set up right in the castle courtyard.
