Spike and Suzy 'The Treasure of Beersel'
Intro
Did you know...?
The comic book adventure takes place in and around the Castle of Beersel. Spike and Suzy are attending a theatre performance inside the castle when all of a sudden, a green bat appears and causes panic, leading actress Madame Fleuve to fall from the ramparts. Spike and Suzy decide to investigate, helped by a guide named Isidoor. He explains that the bat is actually a treasure hunter, searching for the legendary treasure of Beersel—and not too fond of people watching him! Thats when a hypnotist named Priem shows up and catapults our friends back to the Middle Ages—right into the heart of a battle between the van Witthem family and the Cleves family. After many daring adventures, they manage to discover the underground tunnel leading to the hidden treasure. Priem breaks the spell just in time, and right before the astonished eyes of Isidoor and his two brothers, Spike and Suzy manage to seize the treasure.
The 'Treasure of Beersel', first published in 1971, remains one of the best-selling and most reprinted stories in the beloved Spike and Suzy series. This comic continues to charm readers of all ages, blending excitement, humour, castles, knights, and hidden treasure. Willy Vandersteen skilfully mixed real historical facts with a generous dose of imagination to create a thrilling work of fiction.
