Bridge - 2

The cone penetration test conducted between the current entrance bridge and the abutment revealed remnants of two older wooden bridge structures. Of the oldest structure, only two piles of alder-wood and a horizontal connecting beam remain. The archaeologists intend to use carbon-14 dating to determine when this bridge was erected. During the restoration campaign of 1928-1938, a second structure was built on these remnants. On the remains of the bridge from that restoration campaign, the current bridge was constructed about a quarter of a century ago. As for the find density, the survey confirmed the presence of a rather extensive amount of archaeological material around the bridge.
