The old Herisem paper mill and Winderickx cardboard factory remind us of the once flourishing paper and cardboard industry in Brabant. The site consists of the original paper mill, the cardboard factory, the farm with a grain mill, and the farmhouse.
You walk through the history of the paper mill and the cardboard factory and discover the various tools and machines. You experience what life and work in rural industry meant in the 19th century and how the craft of papermaking grew into an industry. The machines used to produce the first mechanical cardboard are still set up exactly as they were left upon the closure in 1940. Twice a year, the 130-year-old steam engine is set in motion again during the Steam Days.
